Decorating a Home With Bold Colors

Bold colors are currently all the rage, on the fashion runways, and now in homes. Whether you’re looking to pack some punch into a bland bedroom or a dreary dining room, you can’t go wrong with a little bit of bold color… Well, actually you can, but lucky for you, this guide will avoid a poorly designed room. By keeping your bold color choices to a minimum, choosing the right color, and keeping your color scheme in check, you can add a pop of color to your home without going overboard. Whether it’s a pair a bright red drapes or a purple circular rug, sometimes it doesn’t take much to completely transform a room with a touch of bold.

Less is more
When it comes to choosing some bright, bold colors for your room, less is most definitely more. Too much bold color equals a hot mess and results in a room’s feng shui becoming completely out of whack – seriously, color can have a direct effect on your mood. Too much color can make you feel disorganized and over-stimulated. When choosing one bold color, it’s important to take into consideration what color scheme will fit best. For example, when choosing a bright red, you may want to stick with neutral browns and cream colors to make the red really pop and to avoid over-doing it.

Choose the right color
It’s also important to choose the right color for the room. In rooms meant for relaxation, deep colors such as blues are more common and in rooms meant for socialization, such as living rooms or dining rooms, you may want to choose “louder” colors such as red, orange, or yellow. Whatever you may choose, opt for a color to match the mood of the room that you’re going for.

Nervous about trying a new bold color? Begin to add a bit of color to smaller items before splashing the walls with a color you’re unsure about. Opt for a new pair of curtains, a cute circular rug, or a fun pair of throw pillows – something removable. If you find that you like the color, you can slowly begin adding more and more until you feel satisfied with the room’s aesthetic. Keep in mind that less is more, so sometimes a few subtle pops of color or an accent wall will do the trick.

Adding a bold color to a room can be a great way to brighten up the room, as long as you keep it to a minimum and choose the right color scheme for the room!
